Dustin’s Story

“I’ve spent my entire career at the intersection of law, finance, and entrepreneurship. I’m an attorney and CPA, but at my core, I’m a builder. I’ve helped launch, scale, and run companies—including my venture capital fund, Iter Investments—and I’ve sat in the operator’s seat of businesses ranging from early-stage startups to a manufacturing company with nearly 100 employees.

Seeing business from the inside changes the way you practice law. You stop thinking like a technician and start thinking like an operator. You understand that legal decisions aren’t made in a vacuum—every contract, every structure, every deal impacts culture, cash flow, execution, and growth. You become obsessed with helping founders move faster, protect smarter, and make decisions with real-world consequences in mind.

And that’s where I kept running into the same problem.

Small to mid-sized businesses—the ones still driven by the energy and passion of their founders—are often the ones who struggle most to access sophisticated, business-minded legal counsel. These companies aren’t “small” in ambition. Many have 20, 50, even 100+ employees. They’re scaling. They’re innovating. They’re solving real problems. But they rarely have legal partners who understand the day-to-day realities of running a business or who price their services in a way that makes sense for companies at that stage.

When I practiced at Holland & Knight—an exceptional firm—I saw firsthand why big firms can’t truly serve this demographic. It’s not because they don’t want to. It’s because they’re not built for it. The overhead is massive. The risk tolerance is low. The economics require servicing large institutional clients who can absorb inefficiency and premium pricing. For small and mid-sized businesses, even great legal work becomes inaccessible when the structure behind it isn’t designed for them.

On the flip side, many smaller firms don’t have the interdisciplinary expertise, operational understanding, or deal experience these businesses actually need.

There was a clear gap in the market.

And I knew I could fill it.

I launched LumaLex Law to bring big-firm sophistication to small- and mid-sized companies—without the big-firm bloat. A boutique firm built by an operator, not just a lawyer. A firm that understands how real businesses run, what founders worry about at night, and how investors think when deciding where to deploy capital.

But LumaLex Law is not just my vision—it’s the collective talent of the people I’ve intentionally assembled around it.

I’ve built a team of exceptional partners, attorneys, and staff who share the same mindset: smart, practical, fast, and deeply committed to client success. Each person brings not only technical skill, but also real-world judgment and the ability to deliver business-oriented solutions. They are problem-solvers, relationship-builders, and trusted advisors—people I’m proud to stand beside. Their drive and dedication elevate LumaLex Law far beyond what any one person could do alone.
